A rare guitar taking back 60 years has managed to raise a four-figure sum for a charity shop in Aston Clinton.

Penny Peacock, manager of a South Buck Hospice Reuse Shop spotted the donated instrument she thought may have a significant value, it went on to raise more than £2,000 for the charity.

The manager regularly organises items given to the shop in the village next to Atlesbury to decide if they are better suited to the charity’s high street shops or its eBay site.

On this occasion, Penny thought the guitar may achieve a higher value on eBay and passed it to the charity’s eBay manager.

The Guild Starfire VI vintage 1960s electric guitar in cherry red received 18 bids and went on to raise £2,272 for the charity’s services.

Penny said: “It looked like a premium item and I was sure it would have a real value to someone.

"We have so many brilliant items given to us, we are a real treasure trove.

"Luckily, more and more people see the value in recycling while raising money for an important community service.”

The reuse site is run by Bucks County Council and managed by FCC Environment.

Charity CEO Jackie Ward said, “We are lucky to have such a knowledgeable team who do their best to raise the funds required to deliver our community service.”
