Plans to build a swimming pool under a tennis court at Hawkins Farm, Frieth Road in Marlow, have been approved.

Sheikh Mohamed now has permission to redevelop the existing tennis court, re-landscape the wider area, insert a cantilever walkway, and build the underground swimming pool.

The householder’s proposed tennis court, which includes five floodlights, will be used by the occupants of the main house.

Planning documents state: “The tennis court will be a like for like replacement with a new chain-link fence and hard court.

“The swimming pool will be located directly underneath the tennis court thus making best use of the existing typography whilst ensuring that the visual impact of the proposal is kept to a minimum.”

The proposed tennis court and swimming pool will be located within the boundaries of the existing farmhouse.

The court is said to be ‘in much need of re-surfacing’, while the new swimming pool is described as an ‘innovative subterranean proposal’ which would ‘merge into the landscape and only really be visible from within the residential curtilage of the dwellinghouse’.

However, some of the applicant’s neighbours objected to his plans, including Mrs Teresa Illman, who wrote: “I am concerned about the large amount of earth moving which will take place on the site.

“There is already a huge amount of spoil which has been placed on the field edge opposite my house. There has been a large amount of construction noise going on over many months and this will only add to it.”
