The Rose and Crown in High Wycombe

Name: Sean Rourke
Job: Father of four, music promoter, former festival director and occasional barman
Pub: Rose and Crown, Desborough Road, High Wycombe
How long have you been coming here? I first ventured here a little over two years ago, a place recommended to me by some friends.
What do you usually drink? For some reason I drink cider in the Rose and Crown, the first few times I came here it was really hot and so I think it just became a habit. I'm more generally a bitter drinker.
Where do you usually sit? At the bar or on the patio.
What do you like about it? Traditional pubs are getting more scarce and the Rose and Crown is a real gem, with a friendly crowd of regulars. We often have a pint doing a few crosswords. Cedric, the landlord, keeps a busy diary of events and raises a lot of money for charity.
Do you think pubs still have a place in today’s society? Absolutely, as a hub for the community they provide many things. They are a place to meet socially (and for business) and enable people to help each other, share ideas and discuss the world we live in. Whether pubs will be understood in the same way in the future is uncertain, as society is changing so rapidly and becoming more virtual.
Do you think there is a good pub scene in High Wycombe? I would say yes, though the town centre can be a bit boisterous some evenings (the Rose and Crown is nicely tucked away). We have some lovely country pubs too.
