Handy Cross electricity cable works to start at sports centre site

Bucks Free Press: Handy Cross electricity cable works to start at sports centre site Handy Cross electricity cable works to start at sports centre site

WORK will start next week on the diversion of a major electricity cable ahead of the construction of the new Wycombe Sports and Leisure Centre at Handy Cross.

Contractors for Scottish and Southern Energy are relocating a mains cable that crosses the site.

The work is alongside the motorway boundary of the site and will involve extensive excavations and the felling of some trees.

However, Wycombe District Council says the landscape plan for the site as a whole will compensate, with substantial new tree planting, 'green roofs' and areas of water.

I'm glad this is being done, but frustrated by the lack of anything new in aquatic facilities, by new I mean something we didn't have before. Namely a leisure pool! Somewhere to splash and relax without getting in the way of those doing their lengths, plus slides, jacuzzis etc. I might be wrong but these sorts of facilities are pretty popular, especially at weekends and with the kids. Where do we have to go to get such facilities? Amersham, Aylesbury, Bracknell... why not Wycombe.

I agree but not at £6 plus a head. Should be more affordable.

Yeah, I must admit I'm not up to date on what these places charge, mostly cos I can't get to Amersham, Aylesbury or Bracknell very easily!

What a pity the new swimming pool will have a huge blank wall at the back of it. What I like about the existing pool is the large panoramic window that overlooks not just the running track but right across to Winter Hill. With a blank wall, it will feel very closed in.
And how can it still be called a "Sports Centre" when the running track and football pitch have been built over with offices, hotel, supermarket, bus station, park and ride etc ?
And while I'm on the subject, what about the aluminium panels that make the outside walls of the "sports" building and carpark ? They are going to look really tarnished and shabby after a year or two.
And another thing....no there's too much to complain about with the Handy Cross "development". I'd be here all day.
