CREWS are once more bracing themselves for action as more wet and windy weather is forecast to hit Bucks over the weekend.

Four extra Transport for Buckinghamshire emergency stand-by crews will join the four already on duty.

Three gulley emptiers and the 'Super Sucker' crew will be deployed across the county, said Buckinghamshire County Council today.

More than 1,350 filled sandbags are ready for any highway flooding, and a similar number are waiting to be filled if needed.

Since the severe weather started before Christmas, 119 fallen trees have been cleared and 70 surface water flood sites attended. In the past 24 hours crews responded to a further 67 emergency calls received by the operations hub.

Janet Blake, Buckinghamshire County Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Transport, said: "I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to our teams who have done, and continue to do a superb job in coping with all the emergencies following the recent bad weather, especially with all the hard work they did over the festive period."

Ruth Vigor-Hedderly, Deputy Cabinet Member for Planning and Transport, said: "It has been a real team effort by everyone concerned in reacting to this recent bad weather and keeping our roads as clear as possible. My thanks goes out to all those involved."

The Environment Agency says there was 10-25 mm of rainfall over the Thames Valley area in the past 24 hours. Showers moving through the area today are expected to die out overnight and more heavy rainfall is expected tomorrow morning.
