PARENTS who want their children to start at a Buckinghamshire primary school or transfer to junior school this September are being reminded to make their applications before the deadline next Wednesday.

The easiest and quickest way to apply is online at www.buckscc.gov.uk/admissions but paper application forms are also available from Buckinghamshire primary schools or by contacting the County Council’s Admissions and Transport team.

Mike Appleyard, Buckinghamshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: "Choosing the right primary school for your child is one of the most important decisions a parent or carer has to make.

"That is why we hope by now people will have considered the schools they would like to apply for places in, and visited them. That gives them the information they need to make informed choices about their child’s future.

"If not, please make this a priority as we have Government deadlines to meet and no opportunity to change them. So I urge parents not to miss this date. Buckinghamshire schools are very popular and many receive more applications than there are places.

"Submitting your application late, even by a day, can affect your child’s chances of being offered a place at one of your preferred schools. Our admissions service is here to help with any last-minute questions you might have about your local schools and completing the application form. You can also contact schools directly."

Online applications must be submitted by 3pm on January 15. All applications received after this date will be treated as late.

Paper applications must be submitted to the Admissions and Transport Team, 3rd Floor, County Hall, Walton Street, Aylesbury HP20 1UZ no later than 3pm on Wednesday, January 15.

To be eligible for a primary school place in September 2014, children must have been born between September 1, 2009 and August 31, 2010. Parents of children in Year 2 who wish to transfer to a junior or combined school (with a point of entry into Year 3) in September 2014 also need to apply now.

Parents with children at an infant school can return their forms to the school by the end of the school day on Wednesday, 15 January.

Parents who live outside Buckinghamshire should apply direct to their own (home) local authority and include any Buckinghamshire school preferences.
