Driving instructors invited on courses to make young motorists safer

A TRAINING course for driving instructors is aiming to cut the number of youngsters killed or hurt on the roads of Bucks.

Young drivers make up 27 per cent of all killed or seriously injured across the county.

In a bid to reduce this figure, driving instructors from across Bucks and Milton Keynes are being invited to attend the courses.

Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) says it has been supporting driving instructors since 2010 to help raise the standard of new drivers through coaching, and the feedback has been positive, with instructors saying the information they receive during the course can be applied directly the lessons they give on the road.

The course contains a mix of presentations, role play and videos.

Janet Blake, Buckinghamshire County Council, Cabinet Member for Planning and Transportation said: “Supporting the driving instructors who are in a position to influence our future drivers is central to raising driving standards across the county. This is just one of the many initiatives we and our partners deliver across the county to try to reduce the number of young drivers killed or seriously injured on our roads.”

The courses are the result of a joint venture between Road Safety Teams from TfB and Milton Keynes Council with support from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue service which provides the venues.

The course focuses on coaching techniques, and aims to support approved driving instructors (ADIs) with the new ‘standards check’ they must undergo from April, which will assess the way they instruct.

The courses will run between 9.30 am and 4.00pm on:

February 18 at Aylesbury Fire Station

February 19 at Bletchley Fire Station

February 20at Great Holm Fire Station Milton Keynes
