Popular village fun run set for return
RUNNERS are limbering up for the return of a much-loved village tradition after organisers announced a date for this year’s Gerrards Cross Fun Run.
Held every two years, the 5k run attracts thousands of people from across South Bucks, with Gerrards Cross village coming to a standstill.
The eighth race has been set for Sunday, May 11, with registration open to participants from later this month.
And organisers are hopeful of another bumper turnout to raise money for charity to add to the £215,000 raised from previous races.
Sue Hatrick, organising committee member, said: "The fun run is a very important event in Gerrards Cross, it’s ‘the’ event really, nothing else compares in terms of getting everyone together.
"It’s a community event and brings down boundaries to get people together. Anyone can race, and there are children’s races for the very young. Even your dog can run!"
The biennial event centres around East Common, where as well as the races, live music, food and drink and other activities will be on offer.
After setting off from the Memorial Centre, runners follow a 5k street course through Gerrards Cross before crossing the finish line back on the common.
This year’s nominated charities are Kids in Sport and Home-Start in Slough, which supports vulnerable families.
Organisers are also looking for businesses to get involved as sponsors.
