Update to BFP being turned away from Wanderers Trust meeting

Bucks Free Press: Update to BFP being turned away from Wanderers Trust meeting Update to BFP being turned away from Wanderers Trust meeting

THE Bucks Free Press was not allowed to attend a Wanderers Trust members' forum last night in response to the board saying one of our headlines was misleading.

The BFP had been invited to attend Tuesday's meeting by the Trust, where more details about a proposed takeover of the club were set to be announced.

The two reporters we had sent to cover the meeting were denied entry however.

The Trust has said today that this was in response to a headline on the back page of last Friday's Free Press, which said members had agreed to 'stand down' from their position as owners to allow new investors to take over.

The Trust said this was misleading as they would retain a partial ownership of the club, and the BFP's reporters were refused entry to the meeting as a result.

Last I checked this is a free country, and if that is how they felt then the BFP should either apologise, or not be parading it like they don't like you! Your tone BFP is condescending and not funny.

If only the BFP had spent time investigating Steve Hayes instead of turning a blind a few years ago, I for one would find the BFP more credible. But alas, they didn't, rather certain people accepted Hayes' "hospitality" in exchange for good press coverage.

Now Hayes that has gone the BFP doesn't like the fact they they don't get special treatment any more and so tries to get little digs in wherever it can.

What difference would it have made if they were allowed and did report. The story would be riddled with grammatical, spelling and factual errors. The photo to be displayed would be of a badger and a squirrel playing hide and seek in the Eden town centre.
I am sure I saw a few more comments to this story yesterday. Perhaps they have been omitted due to them speaking truth and rightfully criticising the lies, inaccurate and biased reporting.

A misleading headline? Not surprising as the quality of journalism, especially from the BFP on its own website, is woeful.

Who cares? What are you on about? It's the most popular sport on earth, so I expect a lot of people are interested. Just another prat who might not like the sport but hates the fact that it's so popular in every corner of this planet. Your the odd one out. You must be slightly interested if you took the time to read and comment on it, or have you nothing else to do in your boring life lol

Begs the question that if it really is the most popular sport in the World (and fan statistics would bear that assertion out) then, with a local population of around 122,000, why the average attendance at WWFC matches is below 3,200? Part of it may be about promoting the Club and the matches....and annoying reporters of the local newspaper is hardly likely to gain the BFP's support is it?

Cricket may be the most played sport but this article and the thread following are about a football club.

I remember Alan Feldberg writing an impassioned piece at the end of the days of Hayes urging us all to be great enough to deserve Wasps - it mentioned grammar school boys of the present returning in the future as rugby players to the school corridors they had walked down years earlier as mere mortals.

I can't help wondering if the BFP Sports department are a bit seduced by the glamour of an internationally-reco
gnised club so much that they don't respect an old-established local club quite enough.

This report does seem to suggest that the reporters were actively refused entry because of an earlier bfp report, and not because they were unwilling to pay £10 as ‘Marginalised Chairboy’ said earlier: ‘They were refused entry because you weren't Trust Members. Even then, they could have paid £10 on the door to join.’

I don’t think it would kill anyone at BFP HQ - without getting into an argument - to defend itself against some of the claims and questions that have been put since the first article appeared.

The fact that the BFP says in its first report that it was turned away for no apparent reason, and that ‘Marginalised Chairboy’ can make the comments he does, and that in its second report the BFP says it was refused entry because of an earlier report that caused offence, also tends to prove what I said yesterday: ‘Undercover Euro Yob says... Like a lot of BFP reports of WWFC dealings one gets the impression they are not giving you the full picture.

Maybe 'respond to' would have been better than 'defend itself against'.
