THE organiser of a club night which is celebrating its fifth birthday this month said he would like to see Wycombe's nightlife improve.

Michael Frost runs Unisex at Buckinghamshire New University students' union every month and on the 22nd it is celebrating its fifth birthday.

The monthly night specialises in bass heavy electronic music and aims to create a friendly vibe. Since it started there has been more than 50 main acts including Chase & Status, Nero, Pendulum and Rudimental.

Michael said: "We are continuing to bring big names into the area and I want to let the general public know what is on in their home town.

"Even though Wycombe's night life is currently not great there is a big night which happens."

He set the night up in his first year studying audio music production at BNU with Matt Bennett, who has since set up his own music agency.

Michael, 24, graduated two years ago and is also a DJ. The regular monthly night attracts around 1,000 people, which Michael said is encouraging, as since the night started Wycombe's nightlife has gone downhill.

He said: "It has deteriorated a lot. When we first started there was Pure. We also had the Garden of Eden opposite the bus station."

He said Ladies and Gentlemen in Pauls Row opened and closed and The Antelope is currently closed.

He added: "We wanted to start a night that showcased a sound that was enjoyable for both sexes.

"A lot of nights that play drum and bass music can attract a largely male audience.

"We wanted a night with a good atmosphere and we never play anything too heavy. "We have kept artists we book relatively middle ground."

The fifth anniversary party is on March 22 from 10pm until 3am with acts Hannah Wants, Kove and Inspector Dubplate.

Tickets are £7 for the public with a £1 booking fee or £10 on the door.
