FIREFIGHTERS, an RAF officer and PCSOs read to pupils at a village school last week.

Holmer Green First School held a week of activities to celebrate World Book Day on the Thursday.

There was a book fayre running all week and children dressed up as their favourite book characters for the special day.

But they also had special guests coming in to read poetry to the pupils.

Poet Coral Rumble came in on the Tuesday to read her poetry and hold activities with the children.

The next day they made up their own poems about animals. Throughout the week local PCSOs, firefighters, an RAF officer and the senior school head and junior school head came in to read poetry too.

Deputy headteacher, Gillian Jones, said: "When we did book week last year we looked at fiction. We have quite a new library and children tend to read fictional books.

"This year we decided to push poetry and have some fun with that."
