6:00am Wednesday 12th March 2014 in News
Homes in the east of England are crammed full of old bread-makers, Rubik’s cubes and disco balls, according to new research.
The British Heart Foundation’s survey found 84 per cent of people in the region consider themselves “hoarders”, stashing away on average 32 unwanted items worth a whopping £508.
More than a quarter of homes have a bedroom specifically to house to excess clutter, and the most popular items include NOW compilation CDs, Lava Lamps and Nintendo Gameboys.
Debbie Dixon, regional manager for the BHF, said: “It’s astonishing how much we collectively hoard as a nation, clinging onto clothes which don’t fit and items from eras gone by.
“BHF shops provide the perfect solution for anyone having a spring clear out – we offer a free collection service that will pick up everything from unwanted clothes, shoes and CDs to sofas and TVs.
“Every penny of profit raised from your unwanted items will help the BHF continue its fight for every heartbeat.”
The top ten most commonly hoarded items in the east of England are:
