OVER 3000 people are now members of an increasing popular Facebook group for Bourne End and Wooburn Green’s ‘past and present’.

The group was set up by a lady who has lived in the area for most of her life.

Kaye Townsend said: “We are very pleased I thought no one would be interested in it. It is very exciting it has grown so rapidly.”

With the members total standing at 3,035 at the time of publishing, the group has the same number of members as half of the Bourne End population which stands at 6,066 people.

Mrs Townsend said: “I just thought that there would be 30 odd people join it but it just grew and grew and grew.”

The group was first started to share old photos and memories amongst people from the area.

But it has now developed into much more and people can now share information about upcoming events, advertise their business and enquire about local services.

Mrs Townsend said: “It has worked really well, people have been able to reconnect with old friends and some people have even regained contact with family members they lost touch with.”

To learn more about the group visit the Bourne End and Wooburn Green Past and Present group on Facebook.

Dr Truth says...

More reporting inaccuracy.

Yes over 3000 people are attached to the group, yes the population of Bourne End is 6066. This clearly does not mean that over half the current population of the town are members of the group as a large proportion will be those with past links who are no longer resident.

Nitpick if you like over the lack of the words "equivalent to" but in doing so, you miss the point entirely. This Facebook group has done an amazing job in bringing a community together, reintroducing old friends, exchanging info rapidly during the recent floods, discussion of local issues, providing loca
l and family history research exchange, tradesman recommendations and warnings, and a collection of local photos old and new. Personally, I would have thought that was more important to a champion of truth than petty sniping, but that's your choice.

Humphrey Handbag says...

Membership of a Facebook group isn't exactly earth shattering local news, but presumably exciting for the 3000 people who are members. Although I suppose their 15 minutes of fame in the BFP should give them something to discuss and keep them off the roads this weekend.

HOLD THE FRONT PAGE! BFP Exclusive: Two more followers have joined. Is this the start of a dangerous subversive cult? Or just a very slow news week in South Bucks?

Clearly an even slower week in the Handbag 'n' Haddock households!
"I have no interest in this story" say the dullards who feel the need to comment on it. Hmm.
