A FAMILY has paid tribute to a “thoughtful, caring and easy going” High Wycombe man – who was involved in a two-car crash which killed both drivers.

Carl Bird’s Vauxhall Astra collided with a Peugeot 308, driven by Malcolm Tindall from Aylesbury, on the A413 at 6am on March 4.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chelsea fan was driving to work in Aylesbury from his Hilary Road home with his brother Luke’s partner Mel when the tragedy happened.

Parents John and Liz led the tributes to their popular 29-year-old son.

They told the Free Press: “Carl was a thoughtful, caring, down to earth, easy going guy with a big heart and a great sense of humour.

“We could always rely on Cark to lift our spirits and break the silence. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”

Carl’s funeral was held at Amersham Crematorium today and Mel is expected to be released from hospital in the coming days after sustaining multiple broken bones and a small bleed on the brain in the accident.

The former Kingswood and Hatters Lane School pupil had a catering qualification and was known to rustle up culinary delights for his family.

Mr Bird said: “On February 1, Liz’s mum died and in that period it was also Liz’s birthday and our wedding anniversary - but it all got lost.

“But we came home one evening and Carl had made his mum a cake for her birthday. He often did things like that, he was very good.”

The family said Carl enjoyed most sports – especially football, pool and golf – socialising and playing Xbox games online with his friends.

Paul, the oldest of the four Bird brothers, said: “Carl was a good laugh, he was always taking the mick and always cheered people up.

“He was a good brother and an amazing uncle to Isaac, Sienna, Eli and Robbie. He would help anyone out and got on with everyone.”

The Birds added that they would like to thank relatives, friends and neighbours for their support during their ordeal.

Mr Bird said: “Your love, caring floral tributes, calls and cards will never be forgotten.”
