COUNTRYFILE presenter and former Newsround legend John Craven will be the guest speaker at a charity event in Marlow next month.

John will be attending the Macmillan Cancer Support lunch at Macdonald Compleat Angler Hotel on Tuesday, May 13.

Born in Leeds, John started his career on newspapers before joining the BBC and launching Newsround in 1972.

He presented more than 3,000 editions of the news bulletin aimed at children, but also appreciated by many adults.

For ten years he was one of the faces of Saturday morning television, first on Swap Shop and then Saturday Superstore.

He is perhaps best known now for his role on popular BBC show Countryfile, which he joined in 1989, which highlights rural and environmental issues and celebrates the British countryside every Sunday evening reaching audiences of some eight million.

John will speak about his life and career following lunch in the hotel’s newly refurbished Riverside Restaurant. Signed copies of his latest book, John Craven's Countryfile Handbook, will also be available for purchase on the day.

The event begins at 11.30am when you are welcome to enjoy a drink in the hotel’s new Walton Cocktail Bar before the two-course set lunch at 12.30pm; a pre-ordered vegetarian option is available.

To book tickets at £30 each, which also include a glass of wine and coffee, call the restaurant on Tel: 01628 405406 or hotel on 0844 879 9128.
