Pub: The Beech Tree.

How long have you been coming up here? I have been up here all my adult life, since the mid 1980s. I used to drink in here and in The Terriers but since that closed down I’ve moved over here full time.

What is the pub like since the refurbishment? It’s a major transformation - it’s brought life back into a dying local, it has been completely revitalised. It ticks a lot of boxes - it’s big, has a nice conservatory, good beer etc.

Where do you sit? Just by the bar.

What do you drink? I like ale and the pub does good ales.

What’s the food like? They’ve got a new menu and it’s very good. It’s a bit pricier than its local competitors but you get what you pay for. The food is really good and the manager really cares what you think.

What is the landlord like? He’s doing a great job, he has put his heart and ambition into the pub and it’s really paying off.

What keeps you coming back? Everyone wants a good local and this is it. You can have a bit of friendly banter with the staff, since the refurbishment there’s been a lot of new faces in here - not just the John Waynes sitting in the same spot for thirty-odd years. It’s really good.

Is The Beech Tree your local? What do you like about it? Leave your comments below.

I’ve lived in Terriers for 9 years and have seen the pub go through a few changes in ownership & redecorations in that time; none quite as drastic a cosmetic improvement as the recent refurbishment.
I agree that the Landlord and the Staff are friendly if a little disorganised, but the waiting time for food (when available) can be unacceptably long. Many locals hope this is just teething problems but as the Landlord was in place for some time before the refurbishment I’m not so sure if that’s the cause.
I sincerely hope the service improves and the pub succeeds after the recent investment, but so far it’s disappointing to some.

I've eaten there twice now and the food times were both OK.
One thing that does worry me is that they have spent a lot if money on a re-ferb, but already the gates are falling apart, the children's play area is unsafe (stinging nettles growing around the climbing frames) and some things are not being kept as clean as they should be (toilet covered in dirt/dust, but should be scrubbed at least once a day). If they don't keep on top of this then they will lose custom ... Which is a shame as we have finally found a pub that caters for most of our needs!!
