MARLOW’s Mayor says it is as much the people of Marlow as the property and idyllic views which make it such as desirable place to live.

The Times has named Marlow as the 16th most glamorous town in the UK, beating the likes of Windsor, Ascot and St Andrews to feature around halfway down the newspaper’s top 30 list.

Suzanne Brown agrees heartily with the newspaper's judgement, putting it down to the vibrancy and variety of life around Marlow.

Since taking up the role last year, she has attended dozens of public engagaments celebrating the town's best and brightest.

And at her civic service last month, Cllr Brown prasied the community spirit of residents who pulled together during this year’s devastating floods.

She said: "I’m probably biased but it is a wonderful place, and for other people to recognise and say that is great. It just goes to confirm what we already know.

"Of course people are attracted by the bridge and the river, but the people here are just so nice and that makes the difference.

"It’s awesome to be mayor of Marlow. I know people say it’s a privilege to be in my sort of position but it really is such a privilege and I feel very fortunate."

Cllr Brown and her Marlow Town Council colleagues are working on the next stage of their comprehensive 'Vision' for Marlow, which aims to improve life for Marlovians and boost the town's appeal to visitors.

See next week's Marlow Free Press for an update on the council's ten-point plan, which is being driven by former mayor Jocelyn Towns.
