AN EXHIBITION featuring first-hand accounts of Caribbean settlers in High Wycombe was on display in the House of Commons.

Three generations of people who came from St. Vincent and The Grenadines to live in south Buckinghamshire gave their testimonies to the Parliamentary exhibition, which went on display last week.

Vincentian Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Wycombe MP Steve Baker attended the event arranged by Wycombe group SV2G.

Cenio Lewis, High Commissioner for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, said: “The future is quite often rooted in the past and it is important for our young nationals and the future generation of Vincentians in the UK to have an appreciation of their history.

"The exhibition provided a worthwhile glimpse of the past and the benefits it provides for the future."

He also thanked community arts organisation SV2G, which promotes engagement with Caribbean heritage, for putting together the work.

Jacqueline Roberts, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of SV2G, said: “The exhibition celebrated the strength, resistance, courage and vision of Vincentians travelled in search of a better life for their families as well as the rich, multicultural heritage of High Wycombe.”
