MARLOW’S Royal British Legion Club is set to receive a prestigious award after being recognised by the national organisation.

Members at the Marlow branch, which is the separate, commercial arm of the veterans’ charity, will be awarded the Ian Hamilton Trophy in a special ceremony this Friday.

The award, given for ‘Club Comradeship and Good Management’, honours the most improved club nationally.

Only clubs licensed by The Royal British Legion are considered for the annual competition.

The Station Approach club was nominated after a successful year which saw members raise over £1500 last autumn from sales of an ale created especially for the Poppy Appeal by Bucks brewery XT.

And it is a double celebration for members after being awarded CAMRA’s ‘Club of the Year’ for the district earlier this year, with judges impressed at the quality and promotion of beers at the bar.

Members of the RBL head office will present the award at a special ceremony on Friday at midday, with Marlow mayor Suzanne Brown due to attend.
