THE first Star Wars standalone movie is going to be filmed at Pinewood Studios, it has been announced.

Chancellor George Osborne made the announcement on social media after visiting the studios.

The film will be the first ever spin-off in Star Wars history and rumours suggest it could centre on one particular character.

 

 

Filming is currently underway at Pinewood, in Iver Heath, for Star Wars: Episode VII which is due to be released in December 2015.

Star Wars confirmed Lucasfilm and Disney have begun development on multiple standalone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga.

Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said: “We are in development of a few standalone films that are not part of the Star Wars saga...there are now creative entities working on developing scripts for what would be those standalone films."

Gareth Edwards will direct the first standalone film, with a screenplay by Gary Whitta. The film is due out December 16, 2016.

Star Wars added that the newest director to come on board with the film is Chronicle director Josh Trank.

He said: “The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."
