THE Armed Forces Day flag will take pride of place in Amersham this week after a ceremony yesterday.

The official flag was raised over the Chiltern District Council offices yesterday in a dedication that paid tribute to armed forces personnel.

Council chairman Noel Brown, who raised the flag, said: "Service men and women are actively working in parts of the world few would be brave enough to venture into, carrying out vital work in peacekeeping, providing humanitarian aid among many other duties."

Addresses to personnel were also given by Flying Officer Andy Keeley from RAF High Wycombe and Lt Col Keith Edlin MBE, from the Amersham and District Royal British Legion, after which a two minute silence was held.

Guests included Chesham Mayor Mohammed Fayyaz, Amersham Mayor Liz Walsh, representatives from Chesham and Amersham Royal Naval Association, town and parish councils and revitalisation groups.

Keith Robinson and Dennis Edwards acted as Standard Bearers.

Meanwhile, a commemorative proms concert featuring performers from around the county to mark Armed Forces Day will take place in Great Missenden on Saturday.

It takes place at St Peter's and St Paul's Church from 7pm. Tickets are available from The Roald Dahl Museum Shop or by going to www.wegottickets.com.
