A VINTAGE tea room has been given planning permission which will feel like you are stepping back in time, the owners said.

Margaret and Daniel Clifford have been given permission for a change of use from retail to a cafe at 18, Duke Street in Princes Risborough.

The couple from Speen hope the new cafe will be open in August and said it is "going to be something really special."

Mrs Clifford, 71, said: "The style is going to be absolutely walk in the door and feel like you are walking bakc in time.

"We have got all antique bone china and everything to a little grand piano in the corner."

She was considering serving a traditional Bucks recipe of Bacon Badger, which is a steamed dish, made from suet and flour, with bacon and onions. But after she made it in a trial run she didn't feel it would suit everyone's taste.

The menu is being put together at the moment but there will dishes such as steak and kidney pie, sausage and mash and bubble and squeak.

There will be a breakfast menu, sandwiches, cakes and they will serve afternoon tea.

The staff will be wearing traditional black and white outfits.

Mrs Clifford comes from the hotel industry and ran a coffee shop in Bourne End called The Little Coffee House, and her husband, Daniel, 59, will be helping to run the cafe.

She said: "It is not time to retire yet. I have got plenty of energy. I don't want to sit at home."
