A GREAT-grandmother's wait for her card from the Queen came to an end as she celebrated her 100th birthday at a Bucks nursing home.

Joy Bovingdon had been telling staff at the Rushymead Care Home in Coleshill she had been counting down the days until her message from Her Majesty arrived.

It turned up at the Tower Road care home on June 12 in time for a birthday celebration with four generations of her family.

Born near Chalfont St Peter, Mrs Bovingdon moved in to Rushymead in 2009.

She likes motorbikes, hearing stories, playing bingo and listening to music and worked as a church cleaner for ten years.

She also loves flowers and was presented with a bouquet which had been donated by the Shaws of Amersham florist.

Bev Sturges, manager of Rushymead Care Home, said: "She was saying, 'I've been waiting for my card from the Queen'.

"She's an amazing resident. She has this adorable, infectious smile and there's an aura about her. She's an incredible lady.

"She likes the flowers in the gardens we have here so we wheel her outside into the grounds.

"It's a pleasure to have her here."
