A SCHOOL theatre will be transformed into a spaceship next week as theatrical pupils transport audiences to another planet for their annual show.

Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School present rock musical ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’ – an ambitious student-led production.

Pupils are involved in everything from makeup to sound production to choreography, and even build the spaceship stage set for the three-night performance.

And A-Level student Aaron Bhalla, who is taking on the role of assistant production manager, said it is perfect training for a career in the theatre.

He said: “We’ve got a big company which is very impressive, a good budget and a great set. It’s been quite a challenge to plan.

“We encourage people to get involved in student leadership. It teaches the kids how to run a show right through to the box office.

“We try to make everyone feel included and for people to get involved that might not otherwise think about it.”

Return to the Forbidden Planet runs from July 8 to 10 at Borlase school theatre.
