THE Bourne End Tesco Express saga rumbles on after council chiefs called for an independent study into the turning circles on the site.
Tesco wants to alter the layout and access to the site in The Parade – which is already under construction after a previous plan was approved.
Residents and ward Cllr Brian Pollock contested the proposed new vehicular access to the store, which they say is much tighter than the original plans and could be dangerous to pedestrians.
The proposals were deferred last month by Wycombe District Council’s Planning Committee to enable planning bosses to investigate whether it was possible to widen the access to the site.
Tesco came back with fresh proposals which would see the access widened by a further meter, but councillors were still concerned delivery vehicle would struggle to manoeuvre freely around the site.
This was despite Transport for Buckinghamshire raising no objections to the findings of a report by an independent firm employed by Tesco.
The report states an 8.4m vehicle, the size of the retailer’s vehicles, could “satisfactorily manoeuvre” around the proposed access.
But welcoming the idea of a WDC-commissioned access study, Cllr Pollock said: “The safety and wellbeing of my residents is paramount.”
Members voted 10-4 in favour of deferring the plans for the study on Wednesday.
