Community hub hopes to bring people together in Micklefield
A COMMUNITY hub which hopes to bring people together and teach them new skills is opening in Micklefield.
Our Place Community Hub will launch on Wednesday at 77 to 79, Gayhurst Road at 11am.
It will be run by Community Transform, which is a Christian social enterprise established to encourage and promote wellbeing in communities through community learning and skills development.
Our Place will operate as a community drop-in, an information and advice centre and internet cafe and as a low cost charity shop.
Director and project co-ordinator, Dave Furze, said: "It is to do a number of things but primarily it is a means of engaging with the community.
"We have focussed on a number of places across Wycombe but primarily it is Micklefield. "
The group has been in negotiation with Red Kite Community Housing for some years and more intently over the last year to bring the project together.
A suit of computers linked to the internet will be available to support the information and advice centre and will be a key resource in any learning programme taking place at the hub.
The charity shop will be an opportunity for developing a retail course.
Dave said: "We are very much hoping to make a difference to the area.
"We will work with the community and help them take control."
The hub will be open from 10am to 4pm today on Wednesday but the opening will be from 11am to 12pm followed by a buffet lunch.
