A COUNCILLOR has suggested a recent village Fete and Picnic in Flackwell Heath could soon be evolved to become the main village attraction every year.

The Bucks Free Press recently reported that there were doubts if the historic Cherry Fayre would ever be held again after organisers said there were no longer enough volunteers.

The long running village event was not held this year for the first time in a decade.

However, the Flackwell Heath Residents Association and Community Association both arranged for a low-key fete and picnic to ‘bring the community together’.

And, despite organisers of the village Fete and Picnic suggesting it was not a replacement of the Cherry Fayre, Cllr David Johncock hopes it will soon grow.

He said: “I agree that the Fete and Picnic was a great success and my hope now is that this will evolve over the next few years not to replicate the Cherry Fayres exactly but to develop it into something between the two.

“There is no doubt that it would have been good to have a wider range of activities both for the children and the adults, and to use the event to raise some funds that can be put towards much needed improvements in the village.

“However, that still means that we need to establish a group of volunteers to identify the opportunities and make the arrangements in time for next year's event.”
