A DOUBLE celebration next month marks the birthday of one of Britain’s greatest children’s authors and the 50th anniversary of one of his biggest global hits.

The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden will throw a party to mark half a century since the publication of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Dahl, who lived Great Missenden for much of his later life, would have been 98 on Saturday, September 13, and the centre dedicated to the world famous author is holding a day of activities to mark the occasion.

Fans will get the chance to create a Wondercrump Wonka Bar, take a Museum Tour or a guided Village Trail with an Oompa-Loompa, or even with Willy Wonka himself.

Staff are encouraging children to visit dressed as a Roald Dahl character to be in with the chance of a prize, or let the Museum's face painter transform them on arrival.

‘Café Twit’ will be serving delumptious lunches, cakes and treats, and the Museum Shop will be open for books, gifts and pocket money toys.

Roald Dahl Day events and activities will be taking place online and nationally throughout September. To find out other ways of getting involved, visit http://www.roalddahl.com/create-and-learn/join-in/roald-dahl-day
