RESIDENTS are being called on to have their say about their experiences of Wycombe Hospital’s Minor Injuries and Illness Unit and the Accident and Emergency department at Stoke Mandeville.

Wycombe District Council is holding a “public listening event” as part of a review into the state of urgent health care in the district.

The main focus of the event is to get views on how well residents think the current urgent care arrangements work for them. Following the event, the aim is to produce some practical recommendations that will help to ensure people are getting the best health care possible.

Cllr Ron Gaffney, who will chair the public listening event in his role as Chairman of the Improvement and Review Commission, said: “We know that healthcare provision is an issue that local residents feel very passionately about. The public listening event is open to any Wycombe district resident who’s experienced the MIIU at Wycombe Hospital and/or the A&E at Stoke Mandeville in recent years.

"All we ask is that you register to come along and are willing to share the experience that you’ve had with us, whether that was good or bad, so that we can make some sensible suggestions about how the two services could be improved.”

Those attending the event will be asked to suggest practical solutions for improving the current urgent health care services, as well as suggestions for how to make it clearer which urgent health care service people should use, depending on the circumstances.

The event will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, October 15 at Bucks New University.

The council’s Improvement and Review Commission is carrying out the review, after full council voted unanimously to agree that there should be a review into urgent health care in the Wycombe district.
