This week Conservative MP for Wycombe, Steve Baker, writes to Bucks Free Press readers:

It has been a fast moving time in British politics after the Leave result and David Cameron’s decision to hand over power. I believe the people of the UK made the right choice for our country in the EU referendum.  The task now will be for Theresa May’s government to implement the dual mandate of the Conservative manifesto and the referendum result.

I know the public took the referendum vote seriously and I understand that some people are now anxious about the future. That is to be regretted; I am certain we have nothing to fear from becoming a self-governing country, making our own laws, trading freely with the world and conducting public policy on the basis of UK citizenship. I look forward to a better UK, pivoting outwards towards the world

There have been many positives that have emerged following the Referendum result, most notably the queue of nations openly discussing a desire to trade with the UK. Australia and New Zealand have asked to pursue a free trade agreement with us, while governments such as Canada and India wish to see rapid progress towards good trade deals.

Theresa May has proven herself to be a successful operator as the longest-serving Home Secretary in over a century. She receives my full support as our new Prime Minister. We can move forward as a country and retain the stability that is required to negotiate our smooth and successful exit from the EU.

Away from the national arena there have been changes to my team too. Tim Sansom, who has been my caseworker since 2013 is coming to work for me in Westminster and I welcome Jacqui Dinan Hayward to my team who will continue this important work in my Wycombe office.
