More than 30 new homes for disabled people could be built on green belt land in Amersham after plans were submitted.

Proposals for the new purpose-built supported living facility have been made to Chiltern District Council in a joint application from Paradigm Housing and Buckinghamshire County Council.

Derelict buildings on the site, to the north of High Street in the Old Town, would be cleared to make way for the new flats.

A total of 33 flats would be built, allowing physically and mentally disabled residents the chance to have their own home, subject to permission being granted.

The proposed site is within the green belt however, meaning the applicant needs to demonstrate special circumstances apply to the plans.

The application has already been 'called in' for examination by Chiltern District Council's planning committee by Cllr Nigel Shepherd. The proposals are likely to be discussed by the committee in October.
