Pop star Rebecca Ferguson and former motorbike racer James Haydon will be switching on the Christmas lights in Old Amersham this evening.

After a three year lull, the traditional Old Amersham Christmas evening has been revived and promises to be a magical festive evening in aid of Bucks healthcare charity, Scannappeal.

Singer-songwriter Rebecca Ferguson, who shot to fame after appearing on The X Factor in 2010, will be joining Amersham-born former World Superbikes and Moto GP champion James Haydon and the Countess of Buckinghamshire to switch on the Christmas lights at 6.15pm.

Children can visit Santa and live reindeer at his grotto before heading to the skating rink on Market Square and there is set to be activities up and down the High Street, The Broadway and Whielden Street as stores stay open late with drinks and nibbles.

Choirs, singers and music groups will also be entertaining the crowds and visitors can join in with carols around the Christmas tree.

Residents can also enjoy free parking in the Dovecote car park, near The Broadway, all day on December 4, 5 12 and 19.

The evening starts at 6pm until late, with the lights switch on at 6.15pm.
