UPDATE: Neighbours' disbelief at 'shocking' attack

A 32-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in Amersham on Sunday night.

Detectives have told residents that they are treating the terrifying attack "extremely seriously" after the victim was stabbed in the shoulder and back during what they believe was a targeted assault.

Appealing for witnesses, Thames Valley Police said the stabbing in Pondwicks was carried out at about 8.10pm on Sunday and the male victim, from Chesham, suffered injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening.

He was treated at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Supt Yvette Hitch, LPA commander for Chiltern and South Bucks, said: “We would like to reassure the public that we are taking this offence extremely seriously and are investigating appropriately.

“We believe that this was not a random attack and so do not believe there is a wider threat to the general public.

"We believe the offenders and victim are known to each other and we are working to determine the circumstances that led to this incident. It is fortunate that the victim was not more seriously injured.

“We would ask that members of the community who have any information relating to this issue, or who feel they have been affected by it in any way, to come forward and speak to us or Crimestoppers, in confidence. This is the best way to help with the investigation, and for justice to be served.

“We have put on extra patrols in the area and appeal to members of the public to come forward with any concerns they may have regarding this incident.

“If you have any information then please call the Thames Valley Police enquiry line on 101.”

Alternatively, speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
