An 87-year-old man has died after falling from his bicycle on a busy road.

The pensioner, from Amersham, was discovered on a main road in Chesham Bois at around 5pm yesterday, and was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Detectives, who are appealing for witnesses, say they believe he fell from his bicycle, suffering serious head injuries.

He was discovered on the A416 Amersham Road, about 10 metres north of the junction with North Road.

The man had been cycling on a blue folding Hercules bicycle before the crash.

Paramedics took him to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival, Thames Valley Police has confirmed.
