Controversial development plans could see a popular supermarket in Amersham be replaced with a restaurant.

The Iceland store in Amersham - located at 75 Sycamore Road - closed on December 31 with Cllr Mimi Harker calling it a “huge loss to the town”.

Plans for the redevelopment of the site, which includes two other retail outlets (Cargo and Chilton Watson Opticians), were received by Chiltern District Council on December 22.

Proposals by Angle Property would see the existing building replaced with two retail/restaurant units, and as many as 35 new flats above with basement parking.

Submitted by Montagu Evans on behalf of Angle Property, the planning statement read: “We conclude that the application site is currently of poor quality and would benefit from redevelopment to provide a mix of suitable town centre uses that would make a positive addition to Amersham town centre.”

As of yet, there is no timescale for when the council will rule on the plans.
