The daughter of a late district councillor is seeking election in her mother’s seat - but as a representative of a different party.

Davida Allen, a Liberal Democrat district councillor who served the Amersham Town ward, passed away suddenly on Thursday November 5 aged 76.

Her eldest daughter Julie Cook is contesting the upcoming by-election as a Conservative candidate and has vowed to continue her mother’s legacy.

Ms Cook said shortly after her mother’s death: “Our Mum had a big heart, spending her life caring for her family and those in her community.

“She put her all into everything that she encountered. We will miss her greatly but will continue to carry on her good works in Amersham to keep her legacy going.”

In a recent statement she added: “My late mothers work was dedicated to the preservation of the local area and in its sustainability.

“I pledge to work for our very special town and to preserve the integrity of Amersham now and in the future.

“The local team of Conservative Councillors representing Amersham have done a great job for the Town over recent years and I would be delighted if you gave me the chance to join that team.”

Other candidates contesting the election are Richard Williams (Liberal Democrats), Robin Walters (Labour) and Richard Phoenix (UKIP).

Residents will go to the polls on Thursday February 18.
