A major supermarket has said it is "keen" to return to the site they vacated just over a month ago after submitting an offer to developers.

Iceland's Amersham store at 75 Sycamore Road closed on December 31 2015 with the Chairman of Chiltern District Council Mimi Harker claiming the move was "a huge loss to the town".

But following a petition against the store's closure - which was signed by Vee Bharakda (Chair of the Chiltern District Council Chamber of Commerce) - Iceland could be set for a dramatic return.

In a statement the supermarket said: "We’re keen to reopen a store in the Amersham area and have been overwhelmed by the support of local residents.

"We have submitted an offer to Angle Properties to occupy the retail unit underneath the new residential development planned for Sycamore Road, and are awaiting a response."

Developers Angle Property confirmed this week that it was "in talks" with Iceland, as well as other retailers including The Co-op and Morrisons, over the vacant site.

Plans for the redevelopment of the site - which includes two other retail outlets (Cargo and Chilton Watson Opticians) - would see the existing building replaced with two retail/restaurant units, and as many as 35 new flats above.

The proposal by was received by Chiltern District Council on December 22.
