The daughter of a late Chiltern District councillor has vowed to continue her mother’s legacy after being elected into her seat.

Conservative Julie Cook is the new district councillor for the Amersham Town ward after she won last week's election with a majority of 50 per cent of the vote to take the seat her mother vacated just three months ago.

The new councillor is the eldest daughter of Davida Allen, a Liberal Democrat district councillor who passed away suddenly on Thursday November 5 aged 76.

Ms Cook's 489 votes were enough to take the seat ahead of Lib Dem candidate Richard Williams (354 votes), UKIP's Richard Phoenix (67 votes) and Labour's Robin Walters (64 votes).

This week Ms Cook said: “I’m over the moon and am very excited to be part of the district council.

“I have the same passion for Amersham which my mum had and I will carry on her legacy to look after the people of Amersham.

“I want to thank the Amersham town people for putting their trust in me and I hope to do them justice.

“One of the key things I will be doing is working hard to do is continue the Space For All project, which my mum was a big supporter of up until her death.

“I think a challenge will be just learning everyone’s names! But I have a very supportive team around me so I’m sure I will be fine.”

Residents went to the polls Thursday February 18 with a total of 974 votes being registered which represented a turnout of 28.4 per cent.
