The chairman of a Beaconsfield town plan project will stand for election if one is called after a councillor resigned.

Douglas Butterfield, who chaired the Vision for Beaconsfield volunteer project and lives in Holtspur, has decided to stand for election after Jacquetta Lowen-Cooper resigned from her post after just three months.

Mr Butterfield will stand on an apolitical agenda as a Vision for Beaconsfield candidate and aims to keep the town plan at the forefront of the council’s attention.

When announcing his candidacy for the vacant position, he said: “Beaconsfield residents and businesses put a lot of hard work in to the V4B project and they are expecting results from it.

"By standing for this position on the Town Council I hope to keep attention focused on the plan and what comes from it.

“It is important that V4B build on the engagement with the local community to create a better Beaconsfield.”

Vision for Beaconsfield, which was commissioned by Beaconsfield Town Council to get feedback from residents and business on building a town plan, delivered its report to the town council on July 23 and they have already begun work on the recommendations.

Mr Butterfield chaired the group from its inception back in October 2014 until the report was delivered.

There will be a by-election election if ten residents of Central Ward submit a written request to South Bucks District Council by August 14.

Otherwise, the post will be filled by the town council, by co-option.

Any request for an election to be held to fill the vacancy should be sent to the Returning Officer at South Bucks District Council, Capswood, Oxford Road, Denham, UB9 4LH.
