Hardworking pupils across Beaconsfield are celebrating stunning A-Level results this morning as many look forward to heading off to university next month.

Despite a fall in the national average of top A-Level grades, Beaconsfield High School saw a staggering 93.58 per cent of their pupils gain an A* - C grade, with 45 per cent achieving an A* - A grade.

13 of their pupils were offered places at Cambridge or Oxford University.

Headteacher, Rachel Smith, said: “I am more than proud. Being a new headteacher, it is just outstanding to see what the girls can do, and the staff who have helped them get there. It is very, very exciting.

“We are a great school anyway, but these results are remarkable and our students are remarkable. They work really, really hard.”

Natasha Pourkarimi gained four A* and is going to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge.

She said: “I can’t believe it; I’m just so relieved and pleased that my hard work has paid off, I didn’t think it would but it has. I'm really looking forward to going to university.”

Katie Gibson, who achieved five A* and is going to study Veterinary Nursing at Cambridge, said: “I’m really proud and so happy, I cannot wait to start my course. It is just crazy.”

Emma Couves was “absolutely amazed” at gaining four A* grades and confirming her place at Imperial College to study Biochemistry.

She said: “I don’t know what the say, it is amazing. I can’t believe it. I worked so hard so it’s incredible to get the results I wanted.”

Keen rower, Heidi Long, got accepted to both Newcastle University and University of Virginia after achieving an A* in Biology, A in Chemistry and a B in Maths as well as an A* in an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Heidi has chosen to head to the US to take a full scholarship for rowing and will fly out next Wednesday.

She said: “I raced at the junior world rowing championships last year and through that I have been offered a full scholarship.

“I'm looking to get a degree in Biochemistry. I'm really excited, I cannot wait. It’s going to be an amazing life opportunity.

“I will miss a lot of people back here but the whole experience will be incredible. I'm really excited to go out there and train with them and study with them.

“I am more relieved than happy, there is such a lot of pressure to train and revise and study so I'm really pleased with my results.”

Beaconsfield School celebrated the highest percentage of A*-B grades ever, with 35 per cent of all awarded grades fitting into the category and 60 per cent of all grades were A*-C.

Pupil, Edward Hannah, is going off to his first choice university, Liverpool John Moores in September, to realise his dream of becoming a police officer after gaining a distinction in PE, B in ICT and a C in Business and E in Psychology.

He said: “I’m very excited, I revised hard this year and I’m very proud. You get to join the police at the same time and gain some experience. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to do this. Most people want to be footballers and things like that but this is what I always wanted to do. When I found out, I went in shouting and screaming to tell my mum.”

Tareq Ahmed excelled in his A-Level results and is going to read Economics at Bristol after achieving AAAB in Economics, Maths, ICT and Government and Politics.

Poppy-Anne Forbes will study for a History degree at Royal Holloway after getting ABC in Maths, Spanish and History.

John Fletcher, headteacher, congratulated his students on their amazing results.

He said: “We are delighted for them as they worked so hard. They should be very proud of themselves and the results they have achieved. A record number of students have gained the grades they need to go onto university and apprenticeship schemes.

“The students, parents and staff have worked extremely hard to achieve these results. We wish the students well in the next stage of their life.”
