MP Dominic Grieve says he is looking forward to working with a Beaconsfield residents' association after it named him their new president this week.

Beaconsfield Old Town Residents Association (BOTRA) has appointed Mr Grieve as its first ever president, and he will take up the position immediately.

The news has been welcomed by members, who were almost forced to close the organisation down after failing to attract volunteers to help run their service last year.

Sandy Saunders, chairman of BOTRA said he was "thrilled and excited" to work with Mr Grieve on important Beaconsfield issues, such as the 350-home Wilton Park development to the east of the town.

He said: “I asked Dominic if he would be the first president we have ever had and he agreed. I am absolutely delighted and I very much look forward to working with him to help make the town a better place for our older residents, for those living in the town and especially for the next generation.

“It will be useful to have the advice of someone with links to government, particularly with some issues like the Wilton Park development and the impact of HS2 construction traffic through the town.”

BOTRA are hoping to tap into Mr Grieve's expertise on issues including Wilton Park, which will transform the former Ministry of Defence site.

And Mr Grieve will work with member with talks on a new town plan, as recommended by volunteer group Vision for Beaconsfield (V4B).

Mr Grieve said: “Beaconsfield faces some significant challenges and changes in the coming years and with the development of Wilton Park, the town will expand considerably.

“The implementation of some of the changes proposed in the recent V4B report will be a most exciting time for me to be availableto BOTRA for any guidance the committee might seek.

“BOTRA has been a mainstay of Beaconsfield life for a great many years and I have been associated with many Chairmen over those years.

“I am now looking forward to helping BOTRA to continue its work, and to co-operate with other voluntary organisations, and with the town council, to promote the best interests of the residents, its businesses and its visitors.”

Mr Grieve’s first official engagement as president will be the annual BOTRA forum meeting on October 30.
