Seven electrical recycling banks are to be removed across the South Bucks district after the success of a new kerbside collection scheme.

South Bucks district council feels the banks are no longer necessary since the introduction of the kerbside collection scheme in February last year.

With the new method of recycling, residents can leave small items next to their blue-lidded bins and more than 17 tonnes of old electrical items, including kettles and toasters, have been recycled since it came into action.

Electrical banks at the Beacon Sports Centre and M40 services at Beaconsfield, Packhorse Road car park in Gerrards Cross, the Broadway car park in Farnham Common, the Evreham Sports Centre in Iver and Neville Court car park and Jennery Lane car park in Burnham will now be removed next week.

South Bucks district councillor Luisa Sullivan, Portfolio Holder for Environment said: "It's wonderful that so many residents are using the kerbside collection to dispose of their broken or unwanted small electrical items.

"The kerbside collection scheme provides an easy and convenient way to dispose of all those unwanted items preventing them ending up in landfill. Not only does this help the environment but also keeps down the cost of waste disposal.

“Residents will still be able to dispose of their electrical items using the household and bulky waste collection services or by visiting their local Household Waste Recycling Centre."
