Celebrities and friends of actor and Beaconsfield resident Warren Clarke helped raise £19,000 for charity with a special golf day last month.

New Tricks star Dennis Waterman held the Warren Clarke Memorial Golf Day last month in memory of the much-loved actor who passed away aged 67 in November and a host of celebrity friends attended.

Celebrity guests included actors James Bolam, Gareth Hale and Kevin Whatley and ex sportsmen including Luther Blissett, Steve Coppell, John Conteh and Ozzie Ardiles.

The annual celebrity golf day had been hosted by keen golfers Warren and Dennis for the last three years, raising over £35,000 for Helen and Douglas House which provides hospice and palliative care to children and young adults; a charity close to Warren’s heart.

This year, 18 teams took part in the event at Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa on September 4, with one celebrity joining each team.

54 golfers, many from Warren’s hometown Beaconsfield including staff from his favourite wine bar Stix, took part.

The winning team were Stadium of Light from Beaconsfield, with football manager Dave Bassett lending a hand.

A picture of Warren performing in the recent BBC series of Poldark as Charles Poldark was bought at the live auction by Beaconsfield resident Craig Rennie, which will take pride of place over Warren’s favourite seat in Stix, on Warwick Road.

Stix landlord and landlady Steve and Suzy Pas also sponsored at hole at the golf day and attended an evening dinner, with Warren’s wife Michele and daughter Georgia also taking part.

Host Dennis Waterman said: “It was an amazing day and a fitting tribute to a wonderful man that we had a record number of teams and celebrities participating this year; Warren would have been delighted.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the golf day, who donated auction items and to our sponsors The Premier League, Cre8tive Rooms and Stix Bar. Without them we would not have been able to raise so much money.

“Helen and Douglas House was a charity close to Warren’s heart so I am delighted we raised so much money for them.”

The golf days have helped to raise more than £54,000 for the charity in the last four years.

Janet Carruzzo, Community Fundraiser at Helen and Douglas House said “Warren was such a wonderful man and a great supporter of our charity. We are delighted so much money was raised which will make a real difference to our families with terminally ill children and young adults in Buckinghamshire.”
