An independent High Wycombe cafe and sandwich company is set to replace a much-loved cafe at Beaconsfield train station after winning the tender.

The Flying Bean Cafe is expected to open its doors on November 1 after Lori’s Cafe closed down last week.

Commuters who use the station told the Bucks Free Press last week that they did not want a national coffee shop chain to replace Lori’s after it closed.

The owners of the popular cafe vacated the premises after they were given notice from Chiltern Railways last year to close while refurbishment work was ongoing, with the lease open to tender after that.

Despite a delayed start to the renovation work, a Chiltern District Council representative said Lori’s took the decision to close before their lease ended.

Tom Allen, managing director of The Flying Bean Cafe, said he is ‘delighted’ to open his first coffee shop on platform one of Beaconsfield station on November 1.

He said: “We won the tender and we are absolutely delighted to take on a new cafe. It is a great opportunity and good for local jobs.

“We run a mobile service and now we have an opportunity to run a retail premises, so it is very exciting for us.”

Mr Allen, who started the company three years ago with just one employee and lives in Beaconsfield, said he is planning a massive refurbishment before opening to the public, but hopes they may be able to open before November.

He said: “We are redecorating and refurbishing the place before we open, installing new equipment and freshening the building up as well as introducing a fresh menu.

“We have been covering Beaconsfield station with our coffee van since Lori’s Cafe closed, so commuters will be familiar with us already. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition.”

The company are now looking to hire new staff from the local area, with plans to keep the cafe open seven days a week.
