A new sports nutrition company based in Beaconsfield which has developed a unique recovery drink especially for runners is looking to raise £5,000 to make their first production run.

Jump Nutrition decided to create their own recovery drink called RUN exclusively for aiding runner performance and recovery after founders James and Ben May became dissatisfied with generic nutrition products trying to meet the needs of all athletes.

23-year-old Oxford engineering graduate James, who lives in Gerrards Cross, founded the company with his brother Ben, 25 in September last year and enlisted the help of post-doctoral biologist Dr Danny Longman to make sure the science behind the product was ‘tight.’

He said: “We were frustrated with the idea that the market is very generic. The products are very opaque and confusing and unless you are an Olympian with a nutritionist, you don’t really know what you need.”

A keen runner himself, James said he had discovered first-hand how different sports require different nutrition to aid recovery.

He said: “We’d tried to use a recovery product we’d found suitable for one sport and use it for running, and it just didn’t do a decent job.

“We wanted to create something just for runners and we wanted to bring transparency to the market and get rid of the confusion and the opaqueness, so we created a recovery drink just for runners.”

RUN has undergone twelve months of research and development to create an optimal blend to address key issues runners face, including replenishing glycogen stores, repair damaged muscles and reduce soreness, boost the immune system, maintain healthy joints and replace electrolytes.

The next step is for the business to raise £5,000 so they can make their first production run and have started a crowd-funded campaign.

So far, they have managed to raise 60 per cent of their total in just five days, with the current total standing at £3,048, from people pre-ordering RUN and James said the feedback has been promising.

He said: “It is an exciting time for us, but it is also quite daunting. We have put all the work into it to get it going and you never really know if it is going to work, but the feedback has been very positive for us.

“There are no UK products just for running. I consider myself a lay runner and this is the kind of thing I wanted to see on the market.”
