Two Beaconsfield based organisations have teamed up to launch a new art competition to inspire residents to get painting.

Greenfingers, a national charity based in Beaconsfield dedicated to supporting children who use hospices around the UK and their families, by creating inspiring gardens for them to relax in and enjoy, is working with artsmart School of Art to launch a horticulturally-themed nationwide art competition – the Flower Power Art Challenge.

Greenfingers and artmsart are hoping to encourage residents to have a go at producing artwork inspired by the ‘flower power’ theme.

The challenge, which is supporting Vision for Beaconsfield, is aimed at professional artists and budding amateurs alike and entrants could win £1,000 if they win.

The competition will be showcased at artsmart’s exhibition of paintings ‘en plein air’ produced by their artist-in-residence Varvara Neimen and her students, over the weekend on November 27 to 29 at their Wycombe End studios.

Beaconsfield mayor John Read is set to attend the exhibition, which is open to the public.

Richard Jackson, Beaconsfield resident and founder president of Greenfingers, said: “We are hoping to inspire many local people – professionals and amateurs - to pick up a brush or pencil and enter our competition.

"We feel there is a great synergy between the horticultural and artistic worlds, with the beauty of plants and flowers being such a creative inspiration.

"By taking part in the art challenge all entrants will be directly contributing to Greenfingers’ latest appeal; giving children in hospices the valuable chance to be inspired by the natural world as well.”

Alastair Pike, of artsmart School of Art, said he was 'delighted' to support the challenge.

He said: "At artsmart we know what talented artists we have in our midst and really hope local people will be inspired to take the time to enter.”
