A garden centre in Beaconsfield is proposing to build a development of new houses on its land.

Wyevale Garden Centres, which has a centre on the London Road, wants to build nine new houses, along with driveways and a new access road on empty land next to the car park.

Building on the site, which is currently accessed through the garden centre’s car park on Butlers Court Road, will not affect the running of the garden centre or minimise the number of parking spaces, a letter sent to residents in Wattleton Road said.

Two emails in response to the plans were sent to the planning consultants, Gregory Gray Associates after residents were notified.

Mr Warren cited the ‘constant problem’ with traffic and parking on Wattleton Road as a reason against the development.

He said: “Traffic and parking is at a peak during the school runs. Traffic using the garden centre can, and often does, cause problems with traffic backing back onto the A40.

“Butlers Court Road is at gridlock most days with school traffic which will only get worse should the land be developed.

“I for one will be objecting to the proposals at the appropriate time.”

Another resident said she was ‘surprised’ that developers were considering access to the new houses close to the A40 junction, saying the junction is ‘dangerous, so much so that it has a vehicular crossing point to avoid accidents.’

She also asked if the council would consider installing a roundabout or traffic lights at the A40/Butlers Court Road junction to make access to the bus stop on the other side of the road easier for elderly people and schoolchildren.

A design and access statement said that no amendment to the design of the scheme has been made as a result of the comments.

However, the planning consultants assured residents that the new development would provide “new, high quality housing and will provide a financial contribution towards providing off-site affordable housing provision to meet local housing needs.”

They said: “It is located in a sustainable location close to public transport interchanges and town centre services and will contribute towards creating a vibrant local community and, together with the proposed re-arrangement of the existing parking layout, will provide a high quality built environment.”
