A Beaconsfield musician will be performing in front of 20,000 people after it was announced he will be supporting Wet Wet Wet on their 2016 UK tour.

Ben McKelvey, 27, will be performing with the group on their 17-date 'The Big Picture Tour' - which features a gig at the iconic O2 in London - as part of his band, The Firebrands.

Ben also hit the headlines last year when he saved an elderly man from a burning building at a New Year's Eve party in Berlin.

The former Davenies School pupil has been performing live for over ten years and was recently dubbed "England’s answer to Bruce Springsteen".

Ben explains he heard the news whilst shopping for a new guitar: “I was at Wembley Guitar Centre when I got the phone call - It was a very good day.

“The opportunity to go on this tour is probably the biggest news to my music career so far.

“It was really hard to keep it a secret. I wanted to tell people as soon as it was confirmed but it was worth the wait to get everything in order.

“I've played live in every music venue you can imagine so it's great to be asked to join such a professional team and play these dream venues.

“I'm sure me and my band are going to have the time of our lives on this tour. Hopefully it will be the start of a great 2016.”

As well as Ben (lead vocal & guitar), the band features Paul Nagle (guitar and vocals), Matt Vince (bass), Michael Hickey (guitar) and Marc Danecker (drums).

The Big Picture Tour kicks-off on February 21 in Rhyl, Wales and finishes on March 14 in Inverness.

The Firebrands will be performing a one-off live set at the Swan, Beaconsfield on Thursday February 18 ahead of the tour. For more information contact info@lysmusic.co.uk.
