Green fingered residents in South Bucks can now subscribe to a council-run garden waste scheme that collected more than 3,000 tonnes of gardening material last year.

Residents in the district can have their gardening waste collected for an annual charge of £46 for 25 fortnightly collections running from April 3 2016 to April 1 2017.

Those joining the scheme will receive a bin for garden waste, while smaller households can request a smaller bin and collections will take place on the same day that recycling is picked up every two weeks except for the Christmas period.

Residents who are already part of the service will be contacted soon to remind them to renew their subscription, which needs to be done before March 20.

South Bucks district councillor Luisa Sullivan, portfolio holder for the environment, says: "The opt-in garden waste collection scheme has proved enormously successful with 3,000 tonnes of grass cuttings, leaves and other garden waste being collected last year.

“We are committed to helping residents recycle as much as possible and providing this convenient and environmentally friendly service helps achieve this.”

Residents will receive a £10 discount if they sign up in February.
