A car has again been pictured parking on a zebra crossing in Beaconsfield, just months after police warned they would tow vehicles away.

The latest picture was taken at 12pm yesterday afternoon outside Knights of Beaconsfield on London End and was tweeted by Beaconsfield Old Town Residents Association (BOTRA).

The crossing has previously been a target for drivers looking for a parking space in the Old Town and in August Thames Valley Police started towing several vehicles away.

In November, PC William Ranford, of the Beaconsfield neighbourhood policing team, told a meeting of the council's community safety committee that they would continue to remove vehicles that cause an obstruction - leaving drivers facing a a £250 recovery fee and three points on their licence.

He told the committee: “If a vehicle is obstructing a mother with a pram and she has to walk on the road surface to get to the crossing, then that is dangerous.

“If it is not obstructing her but making the pavement less convenient, then we will put a fixed penalty notice on the vehicle.”

PC Ranford said police only have powers to punish drivers for parking on crossings, on white zig zag lines or anywhere that it causes ‘danger to other road users’ and said more parking enforcement officers are needed to tackle the problems they cannot deal with.

Residents have called for a solution to parking troubles in Beaconsfield, but plans for a proposed land swap were scrapped in 2014 after almost 60 per cent of people said they were against changes.

The changes would have seen ‘Common Land’ in the Old Town swapped with an area of open space on the edge of the town to allow 45 paid for spaces to be included in areas in London End.
